Tencent-owned Morefun wants to make Roco Kingdom a Pokémon-sized hit in the west

Tencent-owned studio Morefun is expanding its creature-collecting IP Roco Kingdom to global markets with a new multi-platform title. The franchise has achieved massive success in its native China, attracting over 300 million players to the original 2010 webgame and spawning numerous film and television adaptations.

The new Roco Kingdom, developed by Morefun—the studio behind Arena Breakout: Infinite, One Piece Ambition, and Naruto Mobile—launched first in China this year and drew approximately 30 million players in its opening week. The game blends traditional turn-based combat with open-world exploration and live-service mechanics, positioning it as a broad appeal title rather than a niche offering.

Morefun unveiled the game to Western audiences at Gamescom Opening Night Live this summer, marking the beginning of its global push. The new version will be available across PC, console, and mobile platforms, a multi-platform strategy designed to capture audiences across different gaming ecosystems and demographics.

The launch represents Tencent’s continued investment in exporting Chinese gaming IP to Western markets. Roco Kingdom’s established player base and media ecosystem—combined with Morefun’s track record of successful live-service titles—position the game as a significant contender in the competitive creature-collecting genre, where franchises like Pokémon continue to dominate.
