Tencent-owned Morefun wants to make Roco Kingdom a Pokémon-sized hit in the west

Tencent-owned developer Morefun is bringing Roco Kingdom, a massively popular Chinese creature-collecting webgame, to global audiences across PC, console, and mobile platforms. The original 2010 webgame has attracted over 300 million players in China and spawned multiple film and television adaptations. The new multiplatform version debuted in China this year, drawing approximately 30 million players within its first week. It combines traditional turn-based combat with open world exploration and live service mechanics, following Morefun’s experience with titles like Arena Breakout: Infinite and One Piece Ambition. The game received its first global reveal during this summer’s Gamescom Opening Night Live event, positioning it as Morefun’s bid to achieve Pokémon-level success in Western markets. The global rollout follows the strong initial performance in China, suggesting the studio believes the franchise has international appeal beyond its established Asian fanbase.
