Phantom Blade Zero is asking players to free up 300GB of space for pre-loading, double its actual 145GB file size
Phantom Blade Zero, the debut action title from Chinese developer S-Game, has announced pre-load availability alongside its final PC system requirements. The wuxia-themed game will occupy 145GB once installed, but players attempting to pre-load it must free up 300GB of storage space—more than double the final file size.
S-Game explained the unusual requirement in a Steam blog post, noting that temporary files needed for decryption and decompression must coexist with the complete game files during the unlock phase. The extra storage is automatically freed once installation completes.
The revelation underscores growing concerns about PC gaming’s escalating hardware demands, particularly regarding storage costs. With GPU and SSD prices already elevated due to data center competition, such substantial pre-load requirements create additional financial and practical barriers for players building or upgrading systems for contemporary games.
