Pokémon Unite closing down for good, but you’ll still be able to use it afterwards, sort of

Pokémon Unite, the free-to-play MOBA developed by TiMi Studio Group, will shut down on March 23, 2027. The game, which launched in July 2021 for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, has generated an estimated $75 million in revenue across 127.4 million downloads during its nearly six-year run.

The Pokémon Company announced the closure today, with online matches ceasing permanently after the shutdown date. However, players won’t lose all access to the game—a new Library feature will allow them to view their cosmetics, Holowear, Pokémon, and achievements, as well as play practice rounds offline. The in-game currency, Aeos Gems, will no longer be purchasable, and new Unite Club memberships and auto-renewals have been suspended effective immediately.

The game’s final competitive chapter will be the Aeos Crown 2027 tournament, which concludes on March 21—just two days before shutdown. This $1 million esports event is the largest Pokémon competitive tournament ever and marks the end of Pokémon Unite’s esports presence after being removed from the Pokémon World Championships. The Pokémon Company is running a special event until service ends to thank players for their support throughout the game’s lifespan.

The closure comes without official explanation, though the game had been losing competitive momentum. Japan was the strongest market, accounting for approximately 29% of revenue despite representing only 5% of downloads.
