UK-based Rockstar devs will be putting their union recognition to a vote during GTA 6’s launch next month
Rockstar Games’ UK staff will vote on union recognition with the Independent Workers of Great Britain (IWGB) between November 12-26, 2026, in a move that coincides with GTA 6’s launch and ongoing employment tribunal proceedings. The vote window opens just a week before the highly anticipated game releases on November 19.
According to the IWGB’s press release, workers and management have reached an agreement on recognition terms that would grant employees formal representation in workplace negotiations. If approved, the union would gain a voice in decisions covering pay and bonuses, overtime, redundancies, flexible working arrangements, and generative AI use in game development.
The timing of the vote during GTA 6’s launch window adds significant weight to the union campaign. As one of the industry’s most profitable titles, GTA 6’s release represents a major revenue moment for Rockstar—a strategic time for workers to assert their push for formal representation and collective bargaining. This effort reflects broader unionization trends across the gaming industry as developers seek better working conditions and fair compensation.
The concurrent closing arguments in an employment tribunal suggest the IWGB and Rockstar have pursued recognition through multiple channels. The willingness of both parties to hold a recognition vote indicates management’s openness to union engagement, though the outcome remains to be determined.
