I Spied on the WoW: Forever Beta as an Invisible God with the Blizzard Devs Who Made It
Blizzard Entertainment has invited press to experience the final day of the World of Warcraft: Forever beta, a reimagining of the classic 2004 version of the MMO that defined the genre. The test servers are bustling with activity, with players gathering in iconic locations like Goldshire and celebrating outside Stormwind’s gates in a festival atmosphere.
The beta, which caps players at level 30, introduces new content alongside classic features. Players have encountered Super Hogger, a kaiju-sized boss encounter reimagined from the original low-level elite gnoll, representing the team’s approach to refreshing classic content for modern audiences. The beta also includes cosmetic features, with some players appearing three times their normal size.
Blizzard’s development team provided guided tours of the live servers for media participants, offering an exclusive look at the project’s current state. Journalists were boosted to the level cap and granted invisibility to observe gameplay without disrupting the player experience—a behind-the-scenes window into how the studio is approaching the revival of one of gaming’s most influential titles.
