8BitDo’s new Xbox Elite-style controller sets a high bar for customization
8BitDo, the retro gaming hardware maker, has released the Ultimate 3E, a premium $150 controller targeting Xbox and PC gamers. The device represents the company’s most serious entry into the high-end controller market.
The Ultimate 3E boasts an impressive feature set, including drift-proof TMR joysticks designed to prevent stick drift, extra shoulder buttons, rear paddle switches for advanced control schemes, and motion controls. These features collectively provide a customization level comparable to Microsoft’s premium Xbox Elite Series 2 while offering significantly more options than 8BitDo’s own $60 Ultimate 2 controller.
Positioned at a premium price point, the controller includes most features gamers typically seek in a high-end peripheral. However, early assessment raises questions about whether the $150 price tag is justified in a crowded market of quality alternatives at lower price points. While the Ultimate 3E delivers solid build quality and an extensive feature set, its value proposition remains contested against other feature-packed options available at more competitive price points.
