“This company has been driven into a wall for years” - Life is Strange studio Don’t Nod faces unrest while teetering on insolvency
French game studio Don’t Nod, creator of the acclaimed Life is Strange franchise, is facing severe financial difficulties and restructuring as it attempts to avoid insolvency. According to reports from the French video game workers’ union Le Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo, the studio has entered formal safeguard proceedings—a legal protection mechanism designed to prevent bankruptcy through restructuring.
The situation has created significant unrest among employees, who have reportedly endured two years of uncertainty working under the shadow of potential collapse. The studio is implementing redundancies as part of its restructuring efforts, though it remains committed to completing its currently in-development title.
Don’t Nod is known for creating several notable games across its history, including the Life is Strange series, Remember Me, Vampyr, Banishers: New Eden, and the recently released Aphelion. The studio’s struggles highlight ongoing challenges within the independent and mid-sized game development sector, where financial sustainability remains precarious.
