FF14’s new Evolved jobs won’t deal a ‘huge amount’ more damage than their Reborn counterparts, says Koji Fox

Final Fantasy 14’s new “Evolved” job redesigns will not offer significantly higher damage output compared to the updated “Reborn” versions of existing jobs, according to Producer Koji Fox. In a recent interview, Fox clarified that players should not expect the Evolved jobs to deliver substantially more damage, describing any difference as “very negligible” rather than a transformative 50% damage boost.

The distinction between Evolved and Reborn jobs appears to be fundamentally rooted in mechanical design philosophy rather than raw damage scaling. Fox explained that because the two job modes feature significantly different skill rotations and playstyles, damage will be dealt in markedly different ways. This approach reflects Square Enix’s intention to address longstanding concerns about job homogenization within Final Fantasy 14’s combat system.

By introducing both Evolved modes for redesigned jobs and Reborn modes for existing ones, Square Enix is prioritizing player choice and mechanical diversity over traditional power creep. This design decision allows players to select jobs based on preferred playstyles and combat mechanics rather than optimizing solely for damage output. The strategy represents a shift toward creating multiple viable playstyle options within the MMORPG, potentially revitalizing the game’s job balance while maintaining competitive integrity.
