Mario Kart World Seen Running on iPhone After Switch 2 Jailbreak
A recently discovered jailbreak exploit for the Nintendo Switch 2 has enabled Mario Kart World to run on platforms outside Nintendo’s intended ecosystem. Disclosed just days prior, the exploit allows modders to run homebrew software, reverse engineer games, and create modifications for Switch 2 titles.
Emulator developer Will Faust demonstrated Mario Kart World running on both macOS and the iPhone 18 Pro through posts on X (formerly Twitter), marking one of the first practical applications of the Switch 2 jailbreak beyond initial proofs-of-concept. However, the macOS implementation showed significant visual compromises, with limited color palettes and graphical degradation compared to the native Switch 2 version.
This development underscores the technical feasibility of emulating and porting Switch 2 games to alternative hardware, with implications for game preservation and cross-platform compatibility. While such ports operate in legally uncertain territory, the quality of the current implementation suggests that running these games outside their original hardware remains technically challenging and may not provide an optimal user experience.
