Mass Effect composer wants to rescore leaked internal ME Universe trailer to “properly represent my musical vision”
Following BioWare’s closure and the cancellation of Mass Effect Universe, composer Sam Hulick has announced plans to re-score an internal trailer that leaked last week. The trailer was originally created for EA and BioWare management to showcase what the cancelled fifth mainline Mass Effect title would have been.
Hulick, who contributed to the original trilogy’s soundtrack, shared his intention on social media, committing to release the re-scored version for N7 Day (November 7), the annual celebration of the Mass Effect franchise. “I want it to properly represent my musical vision for MEU,” he stated, acknowledging that while he’s currently busy pitching for a new game, he intends to deliver a finished product without rushing the creative process.
The re-scoring project appears motivated by a desire for artistic closure. Hulick emphasized he’s working on this “for no reason other than closure,” suggesting a personal investment in documenting his intended musical direction for the title. The original trailer’s score, developed for internal purposes, apparently didn’t align with the composer’s full creative vision.
This effort represents a small silver lining amid BioWare’s restructuring and the Mass Effect Universe’s cancellation. While the game itself won’t materialize, Hulick’s re-scored trailer will allow fans to glimpse what the composer envisioned for the project’s audio landscape, preserving at least one creative dimension of the cancelled project.
