Microsoft is killing Copilot for smart TVs this year

Microsoft is discontinuing Copilot support for smart TVs, with the shutdown expected to occur before the end of 2026. LG confirmed the news through an in-device notification on its webOS-powered TVs, informing users that “Microsoft has recently decided to end support for Copilot functionality on all TVs.”

The announcement came via a popup message on affected LG TV devices, stating that the Copilot-enabled feature would “no longer be available and may stop functioning shortly.” While Microsoft has not yet officially announced a specific end-of-life date for the feature, LG indicated that the company expects the service to terminate before December 31, 2026.

The move marks another step back in Microsoft’s efforts to expand Copilot across different device categories and ecosystems. Copilot had been available as an integrated feature on select smart TV models, allowing users to interact with the AI assistant for tasks like searching for content, controlling playback, and accessing information. The exact scope of which TV manufacturers and models are affected remains unclear from the available information.
