Palworld studio still hopes to release the game on Switch 2 one day, despite being in a legal battle with Nintendo
Palworld developer Pocketpair remains optimistic about bringing its creature-collection survival game to Nintendo Switch 2, despite an ongoing patent infringement lawsuit with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The legal battle centers on patents related to how Pokémon games function, though IP experts suggest Nintendo may face a modest $30,000 payout if victorious—and increasingly appears likely to lose the case.
CEO Takuru Mizobe expressed enthusiasm for the platform in a recent interview, calling Switch 2 “an amazing platform” that is “especially important for Japan and the Japanese gaming industry.” He emphasized Pocketpair’s openness to discussions with Nintendo about bringing Palworld to the Switch ecosystem.
The game, which features adorable creatures seemingly inspired by Pokémon, has achieved significant success on other platforms. Switch 2’s increased processing power would enable proper performance of the technically demanding survival crafting game, making a port feasible where the original Switch hardware may have struggled.
The situation presents an unusual dynamic: Pocketpair simultaneously pursuing litigation defense while seeking collaboration with the same company over a potential port deal. The outcome of both the legal dispute and any platform negotiations remains uncertain.
