More Chinese success as Phantom Blade Zero enjoys a big launch and becomes one of Steam’s most played games

Phantom Blade Zero, a wuxia action game from S-Game, has launched to exceptional player numbers on its first day of release. The title reached over 700,000 concurrent players on Steam, making it the platform’s second most-played game behind only Counter-Strike 2. It has also claimed the top position on Steam’s best-selling games chart by revenue.

The game’s strong launch follows significant pre-release momentum—it had already sold approximately 1 million units before launch, with 62.5% of pre-orders coming from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The title combines soulslike-adjacent action gameplay with fight choreography by legendary martial arts filmmaker Donnie Yen and a setting inspired by Chinese folklore. Phantom Blade Zero is available on both PC via Steam and PlayStation 5, meaning total concurrent players across all platforms are likely substantially higher than Steam’s figures alone.

The game has received a “Mostly Positive” rating from early Steam reviews. The simultaneous multi-platform launch and sustained high engagement demonstrate growing Western market interest in Chinese-developed titles. While S-Game has not announced official sales figures, the strong concurrent player counts and top revenue position on Steam indicate a launch that exceeded pre-release expectations.
