Review: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Works On Switch 2, Despite a 30fps Campaign - But Poor Input Lag Needs Addressing
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has become the first title in the series to launch on a Nintendo console since Ghosts released on the Wii U in 2013. The Switch 2 version arrived simultaneously with PlayStation 5 and Xbox counterparts as a feature-complete package rather than a stripped-down port.
The game achieves 30fps during campaign missions and 60fps in competitive multiplayer, with a 40fps option available for 120Hz displays. The Switch 2 version retains the core IW Engine feature set, including ray-marched smoke effects, real-time weather simulation, and updated global illumination technology found in other modern platform versions. The compressed 88GB installation—compared to 120GB on PS5—demonstrates efficient optimization for Nintendo’s handheld hardware.
However, Digital Foundry’s technical analysis reveals a significant limitation: the Switch 2 version exhibits 31ms to 51ms slower input lag compared to the PS5 in multiplayer mode. This latency disadvantage represents the port’s most notable drawback for competitive players, despite the game’s otherwise respectable technical achievement for a handheld device.
