HBO’s Harry Potter Series Finds Its Sorting Hat, Fat Lady, and Ghosts
HBO has announced casting for key supporting characters in its upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation. Voice actor William H. Macy will provide the voice for the Sorting Hat, the magical artifact that assigns students to their houses. The show’s ghosts have also been cast: Leo Bill (known from Apple’s Foundation and period dramas) will play Nearly Headless Nick, the house ghost of Gryffindor Tower; Laura Smyth (Baby Reindeer) takes the role of the Fat Lady; Andrew Brooke (Andor, The Agency) plays the Bloody Baron; and Daniel Fearn (Slow Horses) is cast as the Fat Friar.
These casting announcements follow the earlier reveal of the main cast, which includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adaptation will cover Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first book in the series, with the show set to premiere in approximately two months. The casting of these beloved supporting characters fills out Hogwarts’ roster of memorable personalities that will bring the magical school to life in live-action form for HBO viewers.
