Hideo Kojima Makes Surprise Cameo in New My Chemical Romance Animated Short

Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed Death Stranding creator known for his multimedia interests, made a surprise cameo appearance in a new animated short film by legendary rock band My Chemical Romance. The seven-and-a-half-minute stop-motion film, titled “Prelude to The End,” dropped on Halloween as a surprise release.

The short is based on “The Dying World,” a stop-motion series created by artist Lauren Tsai, and adapts the song “The End” from My Chemical Romance’s iconic 2006 album The Black Parade. The film presents a dark fairytale narrative, combining Tsai’s distinctive visual style with the band’s music.

The collaboration arrives during My Chemical Romance’s ongoing world tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade, one of the most influential rock albums of the 2000s. The band reunited in 2019 after disbanding in 2013. Some speculation suggests the short could be connected to MCR5, the long-awaited fifth studio album that fans have been anticipating for over a decade, though no official confirmation has been made.

Kojima’s appearance highlights the creative director’s well-documented passion for film, music, and visual storytelling across various media—interests that have regularly influenced his game design philosophy. The collaboration represents an intriguing intersection of gaming, music, and animation industries.
