Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Rating Potentially Leaks Port for Original 2009 FPS

The original 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been rated by the Australian Classification Board with an R 18+ rating, dated October 1, 2026. The rating cites “high-impact drug use, in-game purchases, online interactivity and chat” as reasons for the mature classification.

This rating, spotted on the ACB’s website, suggests that publisher Activision may be planning to release a port of the beloved original first-person shooter to current-generation platforms. The rating’s appearance follows a similar pattern: Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 were rated by the Australian Classification Board earlier in 2026, which subsequently led to their release as ports on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

While these previous Black Ops ports were not full remasters or remakes, they did feature visible graphical improvements for the newer hardware. If Activision follows a similar approach with Modern Warfare 2, players can expect an enhanced version of the classic game rather than a from-scratch remake.

The specific platforms for the Modern Warfare 2 port have not yet been officially announced, though the precedent set by the Black Ops releases suggests PlayStation platforms are likely candidates. Activision has not commented on the rating or any upcoming releases.
