Soulframe opens up for everyone next week as the Warframe devs prepare the fantasy action RPG for one of its ‘biggest, most violent’ updates ever next month

Soulframe, the free-to-play fantasy action RPG developed by Digital Extremes (creators of Warframe), will enter open access on November 6 after three years of closed alpha testing. The transition to an open prelude will allow anyone to download and play the game through Soulframe.com.

The open alpha launch precedes a major structural overhaul scheduled for later in November with the 17th major update, “Verse of the Veilands.” Digital Extremes describes this as one of the game’s “biggest, most violent” changes to date, fundamentally redesigning core systems to provide a smoother experience for new players. The update will transform Midrath, the game’s main open landmass, corrupting the previously peaceful environment and restructuring world progression.

A featured addition allows players to grow their Omen wolfpup companions into rideable adult wolves by collecting ingredients for a special biscuit, expanding the game’s companion mechanics and progression paths.

Despite announcing the expansion with optimism, Digital Extremes has expressed nervousness about implementing certain changes, suggesting the magnitude of the overhaul may introduce unforeseen challenges or player reception concerns. The announcement marks a significant milestone for Soulframe, which has been in development since 2023, representing Digital Extremes’ effort to establish a new IP outside the Warframe franchise.
