Stranger Than Heaven Features Optional “Cheats” to Make its Combat Easier

Stranger Than Heaven, the upcoming street-brawler from RGG Studio (the creators of Yakuza and Like a Dragon), will feature optional assist features to make its challenging new combat system more accessible to players, the studio confirmed at Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show 2026.

The game introduces a parry-based combat system that differs significantly from the button-mashing combo mechanics found in previous Like a Dragon titles. According to hands-on impressions from the event, the new system is demanding and requires players to carefully study attack animations. Success depends not only on precise timing but also on correctly identifying the direction from which attacks are coming.

RGG Studio’s decision to include optional assists aims to bridge the accessibility gap created by this more technical approach to combat. The assists allow players to adjust difficulty and game feel while preserving the core challenge for those who want the full demanding experience. This approach balances the studio’s desire to innovate its combat formula while remaining inclusive to a broader audience.
