OCE players are stuck in perpetual night on WoW: Forever, but its devs are considering a fix
World of Warcraft: Forever uses a “realmless” architecture designed to improve the experience for Oceanic (OCE) players by leveraging Blizzard’s Australian servers, delivering lower latency than traditional region-locked setups. However, this system has created an unintended problem: OCE players are stuck experiencing perpetual nighttime in-game.
The issue stems from the server architecture’s shared infrastructure with North American servers. WoW: Forever features a 24-hour day/night cycle synchronized to server time, cycling dynamically throughout the day. Since OCE and NA regions operate on the same server despite their vast timezone differences, OCE players’ in-game experiences are locked to NA server time rather than their local time. This creates a jarring mismatch where OCE players experience the in-game sun setting during their evening, only to find the game world remaining in night throughout their actual nighttime.
Blizzard developers have acknowledged the problem and indicated they are considering potential fixes. A developer stated, “It’s something we talked about,” suggesting the team recognizes the need to find a solution that maintains the benefits of the realmless architecture while providing OCE players with a day/night cycle more closely aligned to their local timezone.
