Zelda Producer ‘Nervous’ About Fan Reception to Ocarina of Time Remake

Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma has expressed nervousness ahead of the November 5 release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, one of the company’s major holiday releases. The remaster represents a significant undertaking for the development team, as the original 1998 Nintendo 64 game is widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever created.

In interviews at a press event in Paris, Aonuma admitted uncertainty about how the remake will be received. “I’m all nervous about releasing the remake of ‘Ocarina’ because I don’t know how it’s going to turn out, I can’t stop thinking about it,” he told AFP.

Despite his apprehension, Aonuma highlighted a unique advantage in the remake’s development: younger team members, some of whom had never played the original game, brought fresh perspectives to the project. Rather than viewing this as a disadvantage, Aonuma credited these developers with helping the team reimagine the classic. Their lack of nostalgia for the original allowed them to approach the remake with new ideas about how to adapt the game for modern audiences.

Aonuma noted that the team deliberately left room for surprises in the remake, suggesting the project balances respect for the source material with innovation. The combination of veteran developers’ knowledge and younger staff members’ creative input appears to have shaped the development philosophy for this highly anticipated release.
