20 Years Later, Rockstar’s Best Game Still Doesn’t Have the Sequel It Deserved

Rockstar Games’ 2006 open-world title Bully (released as Canis Canem Edit in Europe) remains critically acclaimed but overlooked two decades later. The game earned a Metacritic score of 87/100 upon its October 2006 release, combining Rockstar’s signature open-world formula with a distinctive setting that differentiated it from the company’s Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Despite its strong critical reception and unique identity within Rockstar’s portfolio, no sequel has been developed in the subsequent 20 years. This absence stands in stark contrast to Rockstar’s commitment to its other franchises, including the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 and multiple Red Dead Redemption titles. The lack of a Bully follow-up raises questions about how successful Rockstar titles can be relegated in favor of its flagship series, particularly as the studio prepares for a major GTA release.
