Warframe officially adds a whole new star system in December
Warframe is getting a major expansion in December 2026 called Warframe: Tau, which will introduce players to an entirely new star system for the first time in the game’s thirteen-year history. Digital Extremes confirmed the free expansion’s December 2026 release window during Devstream 198 on October 30. The Tau system, which has been referenced in the game’s lore since its inception, will feature a new single-player chapter and a new playable character.
The expansion represents a significant milestone for the free-to-play live service shooter, as nearly all of Warframe’s content has been contained within the Origin System since the game’s launch. The Warframe: Tau expansion had been previously teased to players at TennoCon earlier this year, building anticipation for the December release. The expansion will add substantial new content alongside the new star system, continuing Digital Extremes’ ongoing support of the long-running online shooter.
