Dune: Awakening’s free Blood and Ice expansion swaps sand for snow on 1st December

Funcom’s survival MMO Dune: Awakening is receiving a free expansion called Blood and Ice, launching December 1st on PC, PS5, and Xbox. The expansion adds approximately 35 hours of new progression, including new vehicle modules, augments, and specialisation traits.

The expansion’s centerpiece is a new survival map called the Polar Sink, which fundamentally shifts the game’s survival mechanics. Rather than protecting yourself from extreme heat—the core survival loop of the desert-based game—players must now manage cold temperatures and find ways to stay warm. The map is divided into two biomes: a tundra region where players begin, and an ice cap area with more challenging conditions.

In addition to the expansion, Funcom announced that an offline mode will be added to Dune: Awakening this month, supporting game preservation efforts and allowing players to experience the game without requiring an internet connection. The Blood and Ice expansion arrives ahead of Dune: Part Three’s theatrical release later in December.
