Nintendo Releases Hello! Pikmin Short ‘Dream’
Nintendo Pictures has released “Hello! Pikmin #2: Dream,” a 42-second animated short film marking the second installment in Nintendo’s new series of animated shorts dedicated to gaming properties.
During a surprise Nintendo Direct presentation on October 31, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto announced that November 1 has been designated as “Pikmin Day.” The reasoning is playful: the three original Pikmin varieties—red, yellow, and blue—visually resemble the numerals when positioned together, forming “11/1” on the calendar. The “Dream” short specifically features these three foundational Pikmin characters.
The narrative follows the yellow Pikmin attempting to fly like the pink flying Pikmin. When the yellow Pikmin’s solo efforts fail, the red and blue Pikmin attempt to help, ultimately unsuccessful but supportive. The short concludes with the message “Hey, you never know until you try!"—emphasizing perseverance and friendship.
Nintendo Pictures will continue releasing shorts with momentum: a third installment is expected before the end of November, followed by a transition to a monthly release schedule. This animated series represents an expansion of Nintendo’s efforts to extend its game properties into visual media formats.
