‘An absolute behemoth’: Wildly ambitious FPS Selaco is getting a massive update that doubles its size and adds ‘a heavy machinegun that fires literal explosions’
Selaco, an ambitious first-person shooter built on the Doom engine and inspired by FEAR, Half-Life, and System Shock, is receiving a major update that will significantly expand the game’s scope. The game is set on a vast, city-sized space station—humanity’s last inhabited refuge—where players battle a mercenary incursion.
Since launching into Steam Early Access in 2024, Selaco has gained attention for its substantial first chapter, which rivals the length of entire 1990s-era shooters. Now, developer Altered Orbit Studios is preparing to release “Selaco: The Machines of War,” described as “an absolute behemoth” update.
The forthcoming update will double the game’s current length by introducing the second chapter of the planned three-chapter campaign. Beyond the additional content, the update brings a wide array of new features and substantial design reworks to existing systems. Among the new additions is a heavy machine gun that fires literal explosions, exemplifying the game’s over-the-top action design philosophy.
