Former Xbox Exec Shares Her Side Of The Story After Mysterious Depature
Helen Chiang, a 21-year Microsoft veteran who became Xbox’s first chief operating officer in July 2026, left the company just three months later in late October. Her sudden departure immediately sparked speculation, with reports claiming she had been “terminated for policy violations.”
On November 2, Chiang responded via a LinkedIn post titled “Clarity is Kindness”—a reference to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma—to address the rumors. She explicitly denied the policy violation claims, stating it was “not accurate.” Chiang clarified that she did not leak confidential information, leave to join a competitor, engage in discrimination or harassment, nor participate in insider trading, embezzlement, or fraud. She also denied leaving due to being passed over for promotion.
However, Chiang remained vague about her actual reasons for departure, declining to provide detailed explanations. Instead, she emphasized having “serious concerns” about how her case was handled, alluding to matters of “core values.” Her statement suggested the narrative surrounding her exit was incomplete. The timing coincided with Xbox’s broader organizational “reset,” adding further questions about the circumstances of her departure.
