Nintendo Shares Ocarina Of Time Switch 2 Design Sketches

Nintendo has shared early design sketches and development insights for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Switch 2 remake through its “Ask the Developer” interview series. Art Director Aya Shida discussed the core creative challenge: leveraging Switch 2’s enhanced processing power to achieve more realistic visuals while preserving the original game’s distinctive artistic identity and atmosphere.

The team guided their design work through conceptual frameworks like a “puppet-show feel” to ensure the reimagined version honored the 1998 original’s dark world and unusual character designs. Rather than drastically departing from the source material, Nintendo’s artists prioritized maintaining Ocarina of Time’s essence while taking advantage of technological improvements to refresh the experience. The published sketches provide insight into how the studio is translating the N64 classic’s unique aesthetic into modern, higher-fidelity visuals for contemporary hardware.
