Among Us VR co-developer Schell Games announces second round of layoffs this year

Schell Games, the VR developer known for co-developing Among Us VR, has announced a second round of layoffs in 2026. The studio posted a statement on LinkedIn stating that due to “challenging time in the game industry,” it found “it necessary to lay off a significant number of employees in order to ensure a sustainable future for our studio.”

The company did not disclose the exact number of affected employees or the percentage of its workforce impacted. However, the statement confirmed that the layoffs spanned multiple disciplines, with affected roles including engineering, art and design, sound, and marketing departments.

Schell Games acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, noting that it was “losing some fantastic talent” despite the necessity of the cuts. This marks the second significant workforce reduction at Schell Games during 2026, reflecting broader industry-wide challenges that have prompted numerous development studios to restructure, downsize, or consolidate operations throughout the year.
