Nightdive is reviving the iconic trapezoid big box for Thief: Remastered’s special edition… but only on console

Nightdive Studios has announced physical editions for its upcoming Thief Remaster, including a premium special edition that recreates the original game’s iconic 1990s trapezoid-shaped big box packaging. The distinctive trapezoidal design from the original 1998 PC release has become a highly sought-after collector’s item, and Nightdive is reviving it as a nostalgic tribute to classic gaming aesthetics.

However, the special edition trapezoid box will only be available on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2), notably excluding PC—the platform where the original Thief launched. This platform exclusivity has drawn some attention from PC enthusiasts, particularly given that the story originates from PC Gamer, creating an ironic situation where the outlet is reporting on a remaster whose most distinctive physical edition skips the PC platform entirely.

Preorders for physical editions are opening as Nightdive partners with Clear River Games for distribution. While the trapezoid packaging is console-exclusive, other physical edition variants are expected to be available across additional platforms. This move capitalizes on collector interest in legacy gaming packaging and represents a strategic merchandising decision that celebrates gaming history while driving sales through nostalgic appeal.
