Dead by Daylight Developer Apologizes Again, Removes Free Items From TheBurntPeanut’s Account
Behaviour Interactive faced community backlash after one of its staff members granted controversial Twitch streamer TheBurntPeanut all in-game items and paid DLC packs during a Halloween stream of Dead by Daylight. The decision sparked significant controversy due to TheBurntPeanut’s reputation among community members for offensive behavior, including allegations of using racial and homophobic slurs and viewbotting.
The gifting prompted dozens of Dead by Daylight players to uninstall the game and voice their discontent on social media. In response to the backlash, Behaviour Interactive issued multiple apologies—initially via a secondary social media account, then via their main official account—acknowledging the decision represented “a disregard for the context we were suddenly in.” The studio subsequently removed the gifted items from TheBurntPeanut’s account as part of its damage control efforts.
The incident highlights the risks studios face when collaborating with controversial content creators. While TheBurntPeanut has become one of Twitch’s most popular streamers through extraction shooter content, his controversial background has made partnerships with mainstream publishers contentious. The response demonstrates how brand decisions can escalate into significant community conflicts when creator reputations clash with audience values.
