‘Horror Is Always at Its Strongest When Something Bad Is Happening to the World’ – Boss of Silent Hill Remake Dev Bloober Reveals the Secret to His Studio’s Success
Polish developer Bloober Team has emerged as one of the industry’s most prolific horror studios following the massive success of Silent Hill 2 Remake, which sold over 5 million copies in 2024. CEO Piotr Babieno revealed the studio currently has seven horror titles in various stages of development, signaling an ambitious roadmap for the coming years.
During an interview at Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok, Babieno explained the studio’s approach to capturing market success in the horror genre. He attributed the commercial strength of horror games to their cultural timing, stating: “Horror is always at its strongest when something bad is happening to the world.” Babieno cited contemporary global challenges—including climate change, armed conflicts, and economic instability—as factors that drive audience interest in horror experiences.
The studio’s expanded portfolio demonstrates confidence in horror’s continued viability as a major gaming genre. With multiple projects underway alongside established franchises, Bloober Team appears positioned to maintain its dominance in horror gaming while capitalizing on the cultural moment driving audience engagement with the genre.
