Elgato Makes Its Excellent Teleprompter Software Free in Version 2.0

Corsair’s Elgato has announced Studio 2.0, a major update that makes its teleprompter software free and significantly more accessible. Previously available only with Elgato’s hardware devices, the software can now run on any monitor or laptop, allowing content creators to use their existing displays as prompters without additional hardware investment.

Version 2.0 includes several new features beyond the core prompter functionality. Camera control capabilities and improved voice tracking make the software more versatile for recording scripted videos, conducting voiceovers, and maintaining talking points during meetings or livestreams. The software also works with third-party teleprompters, expanding its compatibility beyond Elgato’s proprietary hardware ecosystem.

While using the software without Elgato’s dedicated teleprompter hardware doesn’t provide the same experience—users won’t maintain direct eye contact with their camera while reading the prompt—it remains a practical solution for content creators seeking efficient scripting tools. The release positions the free software as a gateway into Elgato’s broader ecosystem of content creation equipment, potentially encouraging adoption of complementary hardware devices.
