‘It Follows’ Star Officially Addresses Her Return to Another Iconic 2010s Thriller Franchise
Maika Monroe has established herself as one of modern horror’s defining stars, building a career around iconic roles in the thriller genre. Following her breakout year in 2014, when she appeared in both the cult classic It Follows and the psychological thriller The Guest, Monroe has become a fixture in horror cinema, with recent roles in films like Longlegs and the upcoming Victorian Psycho.
This year has brought renewed attention to both franchises that launched her career. It Follows is moving forward with a sequel titled They Follow, while The Guest received a quasi-sequel called Onslaught, directed by Adam Wingard, who helmed the original 2014 film. The new film maintains continuity with Wingard’s original work in the same universe.
Monroe does not appear in Onslaught, as the film features an entirely new cast without repeating characters from the original. When asked about the possibility of returning to The Guest universe in future projects, Monroe expressed optimism in a recent interview conducted while promoting Victorian Psycho, suggesting she remains open to revisiting her role in Wingard’s horror universe. Her repeated returns to horror and collaborative history with key directors position her as a central figure in modern horror cinema.
