Report: Sony Removes PSVR2 Headset from PlayStation Direct Store, Stock Ebbing Worldwide

Sony has removed the PSVR2 headset from the PlayStation Direct store in the United States and Japan, its two largest markets, following mid-October. The headset remains available in other regions including the United Kingdom and France.

Simultaneously, PSVR2 inventory continues to dwindle on third-party retail platforms such as Amazon, with headsets and bundles experiencing frequent stockouts. These combined factors suggest Sony is actively winding down sales of its flagship VR headset.

This development follows Sony’s recent sale of VR patents to competitor Meta, indicating a strategic retreat from the virtual reality hardware market. While the exact reasons for the discontinuation remain unclear, the removal from official sales channels in major markets signals that the company is no longer actively promoting or prioritizing PSVR2 sales.

The move raises questions about the long-term viability of VR gaming on console platforms and Sony’s future commitment to the technology. With stock declining globally and official retailers pulling the product, the PSVR2’s commercial lifecycle appears to be nearing its end.
