Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Switch 2 Cast Features A Returning Voice Actor From The N64 Original
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is receiving a remake for Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo has revealed fresh development details through its Ask the Developer series. The remake features a completely new voice cast, with the notable exception of at least one returning actor from the original 1998 N64 version.
In an interview, Series Producer Eiji Aonuma and Director HokWai Ng explained the team’s approach to voice acting for the remake. Rather than attempting to faithfully recreate or imitate the original voice performances, Nintendo wanted to preserve how players remember the characters sounding in the N64 original. To achieve this, the development team conducted blind auditions focused purely on matching vocal performances to character roles, without preconceived notions about how characters “should” sound.
This methodology allowed the team to find voice actors whose performances aligned with each character’s personality and role, while maintaining respect for players’ established connections to the original voices. The decision reflects Nintendo’s careful approach to remaking a beloved classic, balancing nostalgia with fresh creative interpretation.
The details come as part of Nintendo’s ongoing communication about the Switch 2 remake’s development, suggesting the publisher remains committed to sharing insights into how the game is being adapted for modern hardware.
