Adam Driver Says He’s Done Playing Kylo Ren, but Would Return if Someone Revived His Canceled Solo Film
Star Wars actor Adam Driver has stated he is finished playing Kylo Ren but would reconsider if the character’s canceled solo film were revived. Last year, Driver and director Steven Soderbergh revealed they had developed a Star Wars project titled “The Hunt for Ben Solo,” conceived as a sequel to The Rise of Skywalker that would have explored Kylo Ren’s resurrection. The concept had gained support from Star Wars leadership, including Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
DDisney ultimately rejected the project, citing an inability to accept the narrative premise of Kylo Ren/Ben Solo returning from the dead. Despite creative vision and behind-the-scenes backing, the fundamental storyline proved incompatible with studio direction.
Driver’s recent comments suggest he views this chapter as closed, with his definitive statement that he is “done” with the character and franchise indicating no imminent return under current circumstances. However, his willingness to reconsider should the film be revived—potentially by Disney or another entity acquiring Star Wars rights—leaves some possibility for future involvement.
This situation reflects ongoing creative tensions within the Star Wars franchise regarding decision-making between filmmakers and corporate executives. The canceled Soderbergh project represents one of several abandoned Star Wars initiatives in recent years, highlighting challenges of developing major franchise films when studio leadership maintains significant veto power over creative direction.
