Is The Gears Of War Movie Actually Going To Happen? Director Weighs In
Netflix is developing a Gears of War movie adaptation, with John Wick director David Leitch helming the project. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Leitch expressed optimism about the film’s prospects, stating it will “hopefully” arrive “soon.” He emphasized that “everybody’s excited about the potential of this as a film universe,” though he refrained from sharing additional details, stating “I wish I could tell you more, because there’s some much cool stuff going on.”
The Gears of War film project arrives during a transitional period for Netflix’s film leadership. The streaming service recently saw the departure of film chief Dan Lin and longtime chief content officer Bela Bajaria, marking significant changes to the company’s content strategy. Peter Rice, a veteran executive previously with Disney and Fox, has been installed as Netflix’s new chief content officer. As Rice is recently in his position, questions remain about what strategic priorities and changes he may implement, potentially affecting the future of ongoing projects like the Gears of War adaptation.
