God of War Laufey delayed three months to May 2027, as Sony Santa Monica escapes a packed February

Sony Santa Monica has delayed God of War Laufey from February 16, 2027 to May 20, 2027—pushing back the PS5 exclusive by over three months.

The studio announced the delay via social media, stating it needs additional time to polish the game and deliver an experience worthy of player expectations. “We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential,” the developers said, expressing gratitude for fan excitement since the game’s reveal in June 2026.

God of War Laufey is a spinoff featuring Faye as the protagonist, stepping into the lead role for the first time in the iconic PlayStation franchise. The game stars Deborah Ann Woll and Jack Quaid. The new May release date allows Santa Monica Studio to avoid a congested February release window and gives the team more runway for final development.

While Santa Monica stopped short of providing specific reasons for the delay beyond polish, moving from February to May is a strategic choice for a high-profile exclusive. The studio has promised more updates soon, with possibilities including reveals at The Game Awards or a State of Play presentation before year’s end or early 2027.
