Guild Wars gets its first major gameplay update in almost 20 years

Guild Wars Afterlife marks the first major expansion for the original Guild Wars in nearly 20 years. Co-developed by ArenaNet and 2Weeks, the expansion introduces substantial new content and gameplay systems designed to enhance replayability. At its core is the Unformed, a dynamic dungeon that shifts and evolves after each run, ensuring no two playthroughs are identical. The expansion also features a skill-drafting system that allows players to construct distinct skill bars that change with each venture into the dungeon. Afterlife transports players to Xotecha, a new Mesoamerican-inspired region set within the Mists, where they explore the mystical lost land of the dead. The update incorporates elements from the long-cancelled Utopia campaign, offering veteran players nostalgic callbacks while introducing new characters and narrative content. The expansion launches on January 13, 2027, on PC and mobile platforms for $29.99 (€29.99 / £25.99), with a 20% discount available for pre-orders made before the release date.
