This Extraction RPG’s Promise Of Permanent Progress Has Me Hungry For More

Hunger, an upcoming extraction RPG from Good Fun Corporation, aims to address one of the extraction shooter genre’s most persistent frustrations: seasonal content resets that wipe player progress. Founded by industry veteran Max Rea, the studio is developing the title to offer players the high-stakes PvPvE experiences they expect from extraction shooters while maintaining permanent progression.

Extraction shooters like Dark and Darker and Marathon have gained significant popularity by combining tense encounters between players and AI enemies with rewarding loot systems. However, the genre’s reliance on frequent seasonal wipes—resetting player advancement every few months—has alienated players who feel their time investment is constantly invalidated just as they build momentum.

Hunger’s central differentiator is its promise of persistent progression without seasonal resets. By eliminating the cyclical wipe system, the game aims to preserve player investment while maintaining the genre’s signature high-risk, high-reward gameplay loop. The positioning as an “RPG” suggests an emphasis on character progression and stat systems that complement the extraction mechanics, potentially offering deeper long-term progression than traditional extraction shooters.

With an established developer steering the project, Hunger represents a deliberate attempt to evolve the extraction shooter formula beyond its seasonal model while preserving what makes the genre compelling: unpredictable PvPvE encounters, meaningful risk-reward dynamics, and the addictive cycle of looting and progression.
