Maya Hawke Gets ‘Key’ Role in Live-Action Magic: The Gathering Movie

Maya Hawke, known for Stranger Things and Inside Out 2, has been cast in a “key” role in Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro’s live-action Magic: The Gathering film adaptation. She becomes the first actor officially attached to the project, with producers reportedly prioritizing her for the role. Director Matt Johnson (Blackberry) is helming the film and co-writing the script with Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald.

While specific character details remain undisclosed, reports indicate the production will feature an ensemble cast structure. The live-action adaptation represents Legendary and Hasbro’s latest effort to expand the 33-year-old trading card game franchise across multiple entertainment mediums. In addition to the feature film, the property will also include a television series component.

The casting marks a significant milestone for the adaptation project, which has been in development for several years. With an established actor attached and an experienced director leading the creative vision, the project appears positioned to move forward toward production.
