“Keep talking about it”: Raw Power Games call for Wishlist aid as they, and their historical strategy sandbox Chronicles: Medieval, lose funding
Raw Power Games, an independent studio led by veteran developers from AAA franchises including The Witcher 3, Total War: Three Kingdoms, and Crusader Kings III, has announced the loss of its primary funding, putting both the studio’s future and its debut project in jeopardy.
The studio, which has described the situation as an “existential threat,” revealed that “the necessary funding” is no longer available to continue operations. In their statement, the team emphasized they are “not going down without a fight,” and have called on players to support Chronicles: Medieval, their historically-inspired strategy game currently in development.
Chronicles: Medieval was unveiled last year with a high-profile trailer narrated by actor Tom Hardy, signaling the ambition behind the project. However, the game’s continued development now depends on alternative support mechanisms, with the studio encouraging players to add the title to their Steam Wishlist and maintain visibility for the project.
The situation represents a significant setback for an experienced development team with substantial credentials across some of gaming’s most acclaimed strategy and action titles. Raw Power Games’ founders bring decades of collective experience to the industry, yet like many independent studios, they remain vulnerable to funding volatility.
The studio’s appeal directly to the player community suggests they are exploring crowdfunding or alternative publishing arrangements to rescue both their company and Chronicles: Medieval’s development.
