XBOX Announces Two New Cloud Gaming Options
Microsoft announced two new preview features for Xbox Cloud Gaming today. The first allows players to use their smartphone as a controller when connecting to supported Smart TVs, including models from Amazon Fire, LG, Samsung, and VIDAA OS. This feature will be available across both iOS and Android platforms.
The second preview introduces “cloud connect” technology for the Xbox Nano controller, enabling direct Wi-Fi connectivity to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers rather than relying on Bluetooth connections to the TV. This direct connection is designed to reduce input latency, providing players with more responsive gameplay experiences.
Both features are launching as preview offerings today, allowing players to test the new functionality. The announcements represent Microsoft’s continued efforts to expand the flexibility and accessibility of Xbox Cloud Gaming, which already supports multiple controllers including PlayStation DualShock controllers and can be played across various devices including phones, tablets, PCs, and Smart TVs.
The addition of smartphone-as-controller functionality and improved latency through direct Wi-Fi connectivity addresses key player concerns about control options and input responsiveness in cloud gaming. These previews demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to making cloud gaming more versatile and competitive in an increasingly important segment of the gaming industry.
