FSR 4.1.2 now on Xbox and Xbox handhelds, just in time for a certain big GTA 6-shaped game
AMD has officially released FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) 4.1.2 support for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox handhelds. The update, delivered through AMD’s updated Game Development Kit, introduces two new INT8-based upscaling models specifically optimized for these platforms: the Full INT8 model and the Lite INT8 variant, which consumes half the resources and offers lower computational costs.
FSR 4.1.2 is an AI-powered upscaling technology that works by rendering games at lower internal resolutions before intelligently reconstructing them to higher output resolutions while preserving visual detail. This approach allows developers to improve both visual fidelity and frame rate performance in their games, with particular benefits for the less powerful Xbox Series S console, which has historically faced performance challenges running demanding modern titles.
The rollout began in late October with beta drivers for Xbox Ally handhelds and has now expanded to developers working on Xbox Series X and Series S projects. This release reflects Microsoft’s broader strategy to extend modern GPU capabilities to aging hardware, helping mitigate performance limitations as the current-generation Xbox consoles continue to age without a near-term successor announcement.
