Dragon Ball Composer Is Elected Texas Attorney General

Nathan M. Johnson, recently elected Attorney General of Texas in the midterm elections, has an unusual background in entertainment before pursuing politics full-time. Johnson has represented the Texas State Senate’s 16th district since 2018 and previously owned a music production company that composed soundtrack music for numerous episodes of the Funimation English dub of Dragon Ball Z, as well as five films in the Dragon Ball franchise.

The Funimation dub was the second official English adaptation of Dragon Ball Z, following an earlier version produced by Ocean Group. Johnson’s election comes amid what has been characterized as a significant political shift in recent midterm elections. His diverse career path—spanning music composition, legal work, and legislative service before reaching Texas’s top law enforcement position—reflects how modern political figures often navigate multiple professional fields before achieving major office.

While Johnson’s music production work in the entertainment industry will likely recede into the background of his tenure as Attorney General, it remains a notable detail in his professional history, particularly among fans of the Dragon Ball franchise who encountered his contributions to the series’ English-language localization.
