Final Fantasy’s Yoshinori Kitase Doesn’t Rule Out More Remakes
Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase stated that Square Enix is “more likely” to invest in new games for the franchise while remaining open to the possibility of additional remakes. The statement came during a recent interview with IGN, where Kitase discussed the team’s approach to balancing development efforts between original titles and remake projects.
The Final Fantasy franchise has recently seen activity in both categories. The FF7 Remake series continues as a major initiative, with “Revelation” positioned as the next anticipated release in that sub-series. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 16 stands as the franchise’s most recent mainline installment, having launched in 2023.
Kitase’s comments indicate a strategic shift toward prioritizing the development of new original games, reflecting a long-term vision that extends beyond reworking previous entries. However, his decision to explicitly avoid ruling out future remakes suggests that the studio remains flexible about revisiting beloved classic titles should circumstances and development resources align appropriately.
