Oh hell yes: Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 are getting full-fat gamepad support and you can try it right now
Obsidian Entertainment has announced that both Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire are receiving full gamepad/controller support on PC. The feature is currently available for public testing and allows players to complete both games entirely with a controller, from character creation through the end credits.
Both games support controller input across multiple play modes. Players can use a controller in the traditional real-time with pause mode, as well as in turn-based mode. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire’s turn-based mode has also received improvements and tweaks alongside the controller support implementation.
The update is particularly significant for PC players who want to play these classic RPGs on portable gaming devices like the Steam Deck. While the console versions of these games previously offered controller support, the PC versions lacked comprehensive gamepad integration, forcing players to rely on Steam Input controller templates or other workarounds.
The controller support extends to all aspects of both games, including Deadfire’s naval combat sequences. This comprehensive approach means players won’t need to switch between controller and keyboard/mouse for any portion of the game.
The feature is currently available in public test form, allowing players to test the controller implementation and provide feedback to Obsidian before a full release.
