Microsoft Teams can now show swear words in meeting transcripts

Microsoft has rolled out a new option for Teams meeting transcripts that allows organizations to display uncensored profanity in their records. Previously, Teams transcripts automatically masked profane language, but administrators can now configure whether swear words appear exactly as spoken or remain filtered in meeting transcripts.

The feature applies to both live transcription during meetings and permanently saved transcripts. By default, profanity filtering remains enabled, ensuring organizations that don’t adjust the setting will continue to see censored versions of conversations. However, admins now have granular control over this behavior and can tailor the setting to match their workplace culture and policies.

The update reflects Microsoft’s broader approach of giving organizations greater control over Teams functionality and increasing transcript accuracy. For some workplaces, enabling uncensored transcripts may have minimal impact, while others might find their meeting records become noticeably more colorful. Notably, this change does not affect live captions displayed during meetings, which continue to follow their own display rules and filters.
